Herington Municipal Hospital believes that it is important to continue to offer mammography locally. We upgraded to a digital mammography system in 2012, partially funded through the efforts of the radiology department fundraising drive.
Carrie Shippy and Mary Schroeder are the technologists who provide mammography imaging at Herington Municipal Hospital. They have both been registered mammographers since 2000, and have found over 50 breast cancers in that time. They are members of our local communities and enjoy providing care for friends and neighbors.
Flexible scheduling for screening mammography is offered so that women can fit exams into their busy schedules. Ultrasounds and biopsies can be performed at HMH with the radiologists who come from the Manhattan Radiology group.
Other small hospitals have eliminated mammography and replaced the service with a van that comes once a week for screening mammograms only. We hope to continue to offer local service with additional diagnostic capabilities to provide personal care for our patients.
